FAQs

Do I get all the photos/how many photos will I get?

Each wedding is different, but I will normally take 2-3000 photos at a wedding, and deliver 6-800 edited photos. I take more than I deliver because, despite the amazing abilities of modern cameras sometimes focus can be missed or exposure miscalculated, sometimes people blink, or lick their lips, or pull strange expressions, or someone wanders into the background and is distracting from the subject.

Do you back up the photos?

All the RAW images are backed up onto my laptop hard drive and two separate external hard drives on the day of the wedding (sometimes during the wedding meal if time permits). They are then also backed up onto two different online cloud-based services overnight. I also keep the memory cards and don’t delete/re-use them until I have edited and delivered the final images.

How do we get the photos?

Your wedding images can be downloaded in high resolution from the gallery website, either individually, as a whole collection, or in your own personal highlights list. They will also be provided in high resolution on a wooden engraved pen drive for backup. I always recommend copying your photos onto an external hard drive and to a cloud service for additional peace of mind.

How long will they be online/how long do you keep the photos?

Online galleries will be kept up for a minimum of 6 months from the date of upload - usually they are up for a year or more. I aim to keep every edited photo indefinitely but I will commit to keeping them all for a minimum of three years from the date of upload. As above I highly recommend making backups of your pictures, even better if this includes prints/albums.

What happens if you’re ill/break down/your camera bag is stolen etc.

This has never happened in covering dozens of weddings, but I do have systems in place to deal with these extremely unlikely events. I have a network of trusted and talented photographers I could call on in an emergency to step in should I be incapacitated (and I would have to be very ill!). I also have the wherewithal to cover the cost of hire cars/taxis/purchase or rental of replacement equipment etc if it should be required.

Do you do albums/prints?

I certainly do. Please see the products section for more information. WIth your full resolution files you are free to arrange your own prints etc or you can do this through the online gallery. I strongly advise people to get prints and albums made, even if it isn’t done via me. Not only are photos nicer to look at on a high quality print than on a screen, but to me they ‘mean more’, and will still be around and viewable for many years to come.
